A Different Kind of Safari Children's Book Review

Ogitchida Kwe's

Children's Book Review

In the book A Different Kind of Safari by Helen C. Hipp, Ray a young American boy is visiting Africa with his grandfather and is confronted with a strange happening that causes him to question certain aspects of his life. A hippo and crocodile help Ray to a new understanding and confront a long lasting problem in his very own life. The hippo and crocodile are characters that are built to last any storm and help any being in their journey of life. Hipp created these two miracle like characters just so that an issue that causes confusion in a shy boy's life can be dealt with in a positive way. I really enjoyed the way that Hipp leads her readers into a short journey and was pleasantly surprised at the end! Hipp gives her young readers a reason to be proud of who they are and encourages them through her characters that it is definitely fine to be different than the crowd. If you are a parent with a child that seems to be different from the crowd or may stick out or if you are interested in teaching children not to stereotype or bully then this is a book for you. I recommend this book to all of our homeschool families and others. I also urge those that are interested in confronting any issue that causes a child distress for being different, to use this book for a pleasant way to discourage bullying and help to build up confidence and self esteem in a weary child.

Ogitchida Kwe's Children's Book Review Isabella Babysits Baxter By Melissa Perry Moraja

In the book Isabella Babysits Baxter, written by Melissa Perry Moraja, Isabella the main character learns that she has a responsibility in babysitting, even though she is usually the person needing a sitter. This was a cute story written with a lot of humor at heart, the kind that the little guys go for. The young reader can easily grasp the meanings in this book due to the witty humor and bright ways the author uses to bring her characters to life. Emergent readers will also have no problems reading this short story with precision and accuracy. I read this story in my homeschool and I very well could have let my youngest son read it on his own. He enjoyed it just as much as I did. Moraja knows just how to win over the hearts of children and also downplay any misbehavior that characters took part in. What more could a kid ask for? We recommend this excellent book to all of our homeschooling families and others!

Children's Book Review Roxy Rogers Your Destiny is Calling

Ogitchida Kwe's
Children's Book Review

Book & Author Details:

Roxy Rogers: Your Destiny is Calling
Written By: Emily Siskin-Toy
Illustrated By: Brian C. Krumm

Genre: Children's Picture Book

Roxy Rogers: Your Destiny Is Calling

This story features a brave young girl Roxy Rogers that must come to terms with the choices that she is making for her life, all to be done without disappointing her extended family members. Roxy the main character is able to relate to her family in all that they want for her, yet has never really felt that she has a calling to do what they want. Roxy Rogers really wants to make her parents, grandparents and great grandfather happy about her choices in life. Although she feels good about her family there is just something that is not right with the choices that she is making in her life. Yet, she candidly must try to figure out when the best time to come forth and explain her feelings to her family, about this heart breaking dilemma that she has.

The author helps her young readers to see how important it is for a child to have the support of family in life endeavors, no matter what the situation may be. Family is presented in this book as an essential predictor in how a child may feel about themselves. The author mainly addresses the needs of children having a sense of self confidence. She also helps her readers to grasp the idea of making choices yet including the extended family members in pertinent decisions.

My homeschool students were delighted to hear this story and they also enjoyed the historical addendum and the spectacular treasure hunt for clues. My son loves hunting items down in pictures and this made this book all the more fun for our family. The bright colors and lovely illustrations are a perfect match for the storyline. The illustrator does a fabulous job of bringing the entire family in this book to life. The vibrant colors help the readers to feel the excitement beaming from Roxy Rogers! We recommend this book for children and adults alike!

Ogitchida Kwe's Children's Book Review Dewi and The Seeds of Doom

Children's Book Review

Dewi and The Seeds of Doom

By Maggie Lyons

In the modern day unbelievable or not,  we are ultimately living with GMO products yet they are being cultivated at a high cost to humanity. Many are unaware of the dangers of GMO products and Lyons brings this dreadful topic to life via the strong willed  character Dewi the dragon. Dewi the main character  in this awesome book Dewi and The Seeds of Doom, ultimately discovers the horrible happenings of GMO products and must make a choice in how he will approach this dreadful situation. The author Maggie Lyons, helps the reader to understand the dangers that are lurking in the GMO industry and just how awful the industry is to life on earth. Our homeschool children were intrigued with this story and they too learned a life lesson about the GMO industry. I believe this was a well written story and the children of the world deserve a good honest book as such! It is evident that we must teach our children about the clear dangers of GMO crops and what better way to bring forth this subject than in an awesome book! We rate this story with a thumbs up in our homeschool!

Ogitchida Kwe's Children's Book Review Billy And Monster's Golden Christmas

Billy And Monster's Golden Christmas

Written By: David Chuka

In the book Billy and Monster's Golden Christmas, the golden rule of being polite and thankful are brought to the surface. Billy the main character is one of those ungrateful kids that wants everything under the sun to fall before his eyes. He quietly learns that life is not all about getting, but life is also about being appreciative of what you have today. Billy unusually finds this out and his life lesson is found to be something that truly makes a difference in his heart. Our children listened to this story with content and appreciate the author's way of addressing this wonderful life lesson and bringing it to life! Chuka gives the kids something to be thankful for! We recommend this story to all families!

Children's Book Review The Magic Dreidels A Hanukkah Story

The Magic Dreidels
By Eric Kimmel

PURCHASE ON AMAZON

The Magic Dreidels is based upon a clear lesson from Torah:

"Do not covet anything that is your neighbor's” (Exodus 20:14)

This story was one that helps young children to grasp the idea of jealousy and what can happen when one is so terribly filled with jealousy over materialistic items. I feel that it helps children realize the truth behind jealousy and if they are faced with something like this in their lives, they will be able to remember this story and reflect upon their own lives. The author helps the reader to see just how detrimental that jealousy is and it sends a clear warning to the hearts of children not to engage in this way, ever. This story brushes upon the reality of isolation as well as inclusion. The reader realizes that with a good heart good things come to those who are steadfast in taking the right steps in life and respecting others.

The illustrator Katya Krenina really did a wonderful job. She used nice colors for the winter season and they helped to really keep the story believable for the reader. Also she totally keeps in tune with the author's story by drawing the characters with lot's of emotion.

Our homeschool really enjoyed this book and we recommend it with a big thumbs up!

Children's Book Review Anna and Her Rainbow Colored Yoga Mats

One thing that I have to say about this book is that I totally loved it and so did my kids. I read this book aloud in my homeschool this afternoon shortly after it arrived. The author gives her readers a chance to understand what a child may go through while encountering bullying or just being different in relation to their peer group. She gives the reader a chance to see a super strength that flows through the protagonist via the actions of yoga. This book helps children to understand the value of being different and allowing others in their environment to be different as they are, without a direct negative outlook on the child. This book will help any teacher or parent that wants to explain bullying to their children and how to react when confronted with it. This is an excellent read for all elementary school age children.

Lost Little Penguin Children's Book Review

The Lost Little Penguin by Tracey Corderoy and Gavin Scott was an astounding tale of adventure and love that each and every reader will enjoy! Parents will enjoy this story just as much as children will. It starts off with a foreshadowing of danger leading the reader to understand that there is definitely a reason to be worried for the protagonist, Plip the penguin. This foreshadowing allows the reader to imagine a big bad wolf like character and all the danger that goes along with it. The author helps young readers and parents alike to understand that we should not judge a book by it's cover, figuratively. This was done in a way that captures the imagination of children and keeps them turning the pages of this revealing tale. The emotion of love is felt throughout the story as well as the sense of urgency and excitement. This story keeps the reader turning pages and the interest is always held.  In my personal opinion I believe that keeping the interest of the child is the main point for a children's book. It is not only beneficial to the authors to keep the reader in tune but also it benefits the new emerging readers. This benefit builds upon the literacy of a child and leads them to a lifelong love of reading and this is why it is so important to keep their interest. By keeping the attention of the child reading, Corderoy and Scott are doing much more than telling a story but building upon literacy in the life of a child! Our homeschool recommends this book with flying colors!

The Snow Cat Children's Book Review

Book Review: The Snow Cat

Nish Homeschool  Book Review: The Snow Cat
By Lester Ferguson

This book is one in the series of Earth Watchers written by Lester Ferguson. Ferguson surely writes for a crowd of youngsters to cheer them on to become wild life lovers and activists. The book The Snow Cat, gives the readers time to immerse themselves in a beautiful wild life expedition within the Himalayan Mountains. The reader is introduced to the snow leopards and given a short time to grow close to them before the true expedition of this story is revealed. Parents and children alike will find this story fascinating and an honest truth to the struggle of wild life activists across the world. The excitement level is fast paced and the reader is always ready to move on to the next page to find out what will happen next. Not only will the reader experience excitement when reading this book, they will also come to understand the natural way of life in the far eastern mountains. Ferguson shares important data that reflects the region and guides the reader to the history and culture of illegal animal poaching.  As an added bonus it also includes a small colorful map in the back of the book and fun facts on tigers. The included map helps the young reader to easily navigate where the setting will take place in this story.  I truly loved this book. As a political/animal activist I honestly feel that this book was well written for a child to grasp an understanding of the dangers in standing up for what they believe in and morally right. Ferguson definitely knows how to write an interesting book complete with educational materials as well. We give this book a thumbs up and recommend it to our homeschooling families and others!

Children's Book Review The Trees Have Hearts

Children's Book Review

The Trees Have Hearts

Author: Mrs. D.

Children in any social setting can be down right mean and hurtful when it comes to language barriers, or any other issues that cause another child to stick out. Too many children today are outcasts from the popular crowd and strive earnestly to fit in. Feeling left out as this story relates is just not fun. Mrs. D. helps her young readers see just how important being inclusive is with other children. Yet she also helps to define happiness without the crowd. Addressing the social aspects of bullying and exclusiveness in children's social settings is an excellent way to write a book.

We read this book aloud in our homeschool and my family enjoyed it very much. My youngster understood the pain that the main character felt in this book and he was filled with empathy for her. Not only that, but he was amazed with the trees and the wind and how their emotions ran wild at times. This is an excellent story to help children understand the ill effects of bullying. The author empowers her readers to build self esteem in order to persevere on their own, especially if they are defined as different from the core group. We recommend this book to all!
