Can a wild mama bear and an orderly Tennessee State Trooper fight the BOOM?

There are two sides to Lydia Roark. The wild, fun-loving woman who fights hard to protect bears and other animals. And the strait-laced, doting mother of twins who dresses properly and covers her tattoos so not to embarrass her husband. But when her life blows up in a silicon, Botoxed way, her fiery side is unleashed. The cheating husband she struggled to be perfect for will beg for mercy as Lydia fights for her children and becomes the mama bear she studies.

Enter Maverick Whitlock, the argumentative state trooper has a bear problem and is instantly attracted to the curvy and newly single mom. He’s orderly and everything she doesn’t want anymore. He only wants to protect her and is okay with the chaos she and her children bring to his life.

When Lydia’s ex comes after her and the kids, Maverick is willing to give up his badge for them. Lydia isn’t ready for another attempt at a happily ever after. But you can’t fight the BOOM when it finds you.

Goodreads / Amazon

EXCERPT:

The fierce beat of Apollo’s heart thudded against her palm. Warmth seeped into her fingertips and left her breathless. She glanced briefly to the side, spying the tile embedded inches into the ground.

That could have been her.

She met Apollo’s gaze, his pupils dark. His breaths were ragged and whispered through her hair. She smelled sweetness on his breath for a moment until it gave way to a soapy fragrance that wrapped about her.

His arms framed her against the wall, a protective cocoon that should have slowed the pounding of her pulse. But he was so close. Inches away. And he was so warm. Her fingers remained splayed upon his chest. She couldn’t move them even if she wanted to.

And she didn’t.

The firmness of his chest and thump, thump of his heart eased away the breathlessness and brought her back to the world. A breeze tousled her hair, sending a curl tickling around her neck. Somewhere in the village a baby cried. And the tingle of awareness that came with touching Apollo continued, rippling through her and leaving her feeling as though her entire body was aflame.

When she met his gaze, everything but the awareness dissolved. Gone were the sounds of life in the village. She swore she could hear the raging hammer of his heart which had yet to slow and each thick inhale she took.

Maisie dragged her gaze over his features, lingering upon the white scar then to the slight stubble on his jaw and up again to meet a gaze that remained intense. All she needed to do was push him away. To utter a quick thank you for saving her life and retreat inside.

Neither her legs nor her arms would obey such a command.

His gaze flicked down and up again. He twisted the golden ring on his index finger, his body swaying ever so slightly forward.

Her breaths quickened, rasping in her throat. A single word would stop him. All she had to do was force one from her throat and it would put an end to the inevitable.

Perhaps she’d known this would always come, even from the moment she’d first spotted him. Perhaps that was why she’d hidden from him. Apollo had always held sway over her, and years apart hadn’t changed that. If anything, it was worse. She liked the man he had grown into far too much.

“Maisie,” he murmured, his tone guttural.

She blinked. Her name echoed in her ears, and a flash of recollection flared. He’d uttered her name in exactly the same manner when he’d sent her away. A word tinged with regret.

Well, she wasn’t giving either of them anything to regret now.

She ducked under his arm and backed up by several steps. He offered a rough curse and pushed away from the wall.

“That was a mistake.”

He scrutinized her, his face giving nothing away. Could he not at least show regret at his actions? It would make escaping what had to have been a near kiss easier—if he did not really want it either.

She knew what she wanted, and it wasn’t a kiss from Apollo.

Was it?

Goodreads / Amazon / Barnes & Noble / iBooks / Kobo / Other Retailers

EXCERPT:

So, you’ll let her fight?” His brother Griff asked.

Calvaire! No.” Ren jolted with dread at the idea of Rosalie facing that brute Bouchard in combat. “I’m the one who should fight this trial. I’m the Gauthiers’ protector, not just her husband.”

“Shit, man,” Cass suddenly lifted a concerned brow as he set his drink aside. “This is your wedding night. Shouldn’t you be with her right now?”

“I’m sleeping on the couch.”

“Dude.” Cass shot him a pained expression.

“Yeah,” he rasped as longing took hold of him.

His breathing deepened and he imagined how he could slide between his sheets next to her enticing body and explore every curve he should be calling his. Take her as she cried his name in the depth of passion.

“So, you haven’t…” Griff started. “Never?”

“No.” He cleared his throat and dug his nails into his palm, not wanting to discuss the matter further.

“Don’t you want to, though,” Griff said. “She’s quite attractive.”

“Dude, she’s his wife.”

“Well, apparently not,” Griff retorted.

“Not in that sense, no,” Ren huffed.

“Why the hell not?” Griff picked the crushed can from the deck and passed it to Cass who had started to pick up the empty drinks.

“Well,” Ren started, “first I barely know her. And second, she has a boyfriend.”

“Ex,” Cass corrected, dropping the dead beer cans into the brown paper bag marked with the logo of the Fortins’ grocery store.

“Whatever,” Ren said.

“So, you two will just like, live together. But…nothing?” Griff asked.

“That’s the plan,” Ren acknowledged. “This is a fake marriage. We’ll just divorce in a couple of years.”

“Fucking messed-up plan,” Griff smirked.

“Yeah.” Ren shrugged hopelessly. “Some honeymoon.”

EXCERPT

Beautiful Sin by Jennilynn Wyer, copyright 2023

“Can I ask you a question?”
He twists around and looks up at me. “Depends on the question. It’s a definite yes if you want to massage lower.”
My eye roll is intentional.
“Do you always have to ruin a moment with a jerk response—Don’t,” I quickly say when I see his eyes alight with humor, and I realize my verbal faux pas.
“I didn’t know we were having a moment.”
He flips fully over, taking me by surprise, and I collapse backward onto the soft ground with Tristan braced above me. Without thinking, I flatten my palms to his chest. I can feel the solid thump of his heartbeat beneath my fingertips. My gaze gravitates to his mouth. He’s not smiling anymore.
“Are you involved in organized crime? Like the son of a don or something?”
He bursts out laughing, and the sight is wondrous.
“Was that the question you wanted to ask?”
I nod, feeling foolish, but it was the only thing I could come up with to explain everything that has happened. I’m trying to make sense of things that are way outside my realm of comprehension. Guns. Violence. His abusive father. Aleksander. Why Tristan thinks my life may be in danger from the latter two.
“No, Red. Just because my family is Italian—”
Shit. Not what I meant.
“I swear that’s not what I was implying. It’s just…”
Flustered, I turn my head and look at the red bell flowers hanging down in clusters on the nearby bush, but he takes my face and forces me to look at him.
“Who are you?” I whisper, afraid to find out the real answer.
I want him to lie to me. Make up a story. Anything to maintain the illusion.
“Who are you, Synthia Carmichael?” he counters.
“I am no one.”
The effect those words have on Tristan is the same as Hendrix when I say it. He takes my throat and leans in. But unlike with Hendrix that night at the top of the stairs, Tristan’s touch is enticingly provocative, not punishing. Seems I like both.
“Don’t ever say that again.”
He moves his hand from my throat to my mouth and pulls at my bottom lip, then shoves his finger inside. Some innate instinct takes over, and I suck, stroking my tongue up his thumb. Black eclipses his irises, hiding the golden brown.
His voice is husky when he warns, “Careful, Red. I won’t ask for your permission. I’ll just take what I fucking want.”
I’m barraged with lurid promises of what it would be like to be taken by a man like him. Hendrix in the pantry had stoked those embers, but Tristan is the gasoline that will ignite those sparks into a wildfire.
And I would burn once again.
Which is why I push him off me and scramble to my feet, then run back inside the house and up the stairs to my room.
I’m good at running away. I’ve been doing it my entire life.

Maybe friends really do make the best lovers…

Barista Maddie Stalwart-Jones has known Todd Kaihanga all her life, but no matter where her brain wanders when she’s not vigilant, she refuses to consider her brother’s best mate as anything other than off limits. It would be all wrong, right? The self-proclaimed pessimist is intent on ignoring the fact her cafe manager is the only guy she can relax and be herself around, and the only person she’s comfortable talking about her dead brother with.

Intent on escaping Wānaka, where everyone seems to have an opinion on her intimate business and family history, falling for Todd would be highly inconvenient.

Todd’s a patient guy, but he’s over waiting around for Maddie to notice he could be so much more than a shoulder to lean on. When Maddie’s mother finally agrees to accept some much needed help with her run down property, it’s a perfect catalyst for Todd to prove to his high school crush that his optimistic streak isn’t a curse, it’s the perfect yin to her yang. “Your mother thinks the sun shines out of your every orifice. You’d think you really were born a cherub.”

“Are you harassing my hair again?

“No. I thought I was harassing your dimples.” He turned his head to look at her, but she was gazing directly up at the night sky, profile framed by vines.

He touched one forefinger lightly to the crease in her left cheek, then leaned across so his mouth could follow suit, whispering a kiss.

Maddie didn’t pull away.

“I love it when your dimples flicker like that…” he murmured against her skin. “When you’re not really smiling yet, but I know you’re happy. I know you’re content.”

“Why does it mean so much to you that I’m content?”

He leaned back. “I told you. You’re a part of me.”

The Lord Vampire of New Orleans meets his match in the leader of the local witch coven.

Magic is returning to Earth, and Raina Callahan’s witch coven is growing more powerful. She’s been warned to be wary of catching interest from dangerous people, and sure enough, she discovers that someone is following her. Valentin St. Scarasse, Lord Vampire of New Orleans, has a weakness for voluptuous women with magic in their blood. EXCERPT:

The sun had set by the time they left the restaurant. Raina groaned to see Valentin leaning against her car. “Did you even have time to feed?”

The vampire smirked and put his hand over his heart. “I’m touched that you care.”

“I just want to make sure that you aren’t planning on biting one of us.”

“And now you wound me.” Valentin gave her an unfairly sexy pout. “Ms. Callahan, I told you that your safety is of utmost importance to me. Now, may I have a ride, or will you make me walk?”

“Can’t you fly?”

His laughter held the texture of roughened velvet. “That is a rare ability with my kind.”

Raina wanted to ask more about what he could do but held her face in an impassive mask. “I guess you’ll have to take an Uber, then.”

With that, she and Alma got in her little Nissan Leaf and drove home. But when they pulled into the narrow driveway, Valentin was waiting on the curb, just outside the protective wards.

Raina glared at him as she got out of the car, noting that he remained outside the barrier. “I thought you couldn’t fly.”

“I can’t.”

“Did you turn into a bat then?” Alma asked him. “Or teleport?”

“I have my ways.” Valentin stood and dusted off his jeans. “You may as well invite me in.”

“Hell no,” Raina said as she shut her car door. “I’ve seen enough movies.”

The vampire laughed. “I don’t need an invitation to go inside your house. I’ve been in there before. You both have interesting taste in art. I especially like the movie posters. I’d just appreciate it if you to let down your ward.”

“No.”

His pout twisted things beneath her ribs. “I am tired of being outside.”

“Then go home.”

“You know I can’t do that.”

Raina threw up her hands in exasperation, and she and Alma went into the house. They tried to ignore the fact that a vampire was lurking outside and watch a movie, but ended up turning it off and going to bed early. Despite her exhaustion, Raina tossed and turned for an hour, countless questions burning in her mind. She gave up on sleep, put on her robe, and went outside. Valentin was still sitting on the curb, reading a book.

He looked up with a smirk. “I’m glad you’re here to alleviate my boredom.”

“Who is Xochitl’s uncle?” Raina demanded, marching up to him.

Valentin’s eyes widened, and he visibly shuddered. “Probably one of the most terrifying beings in existence. I don’t know how much I’m allowed to tell you about him.” He sighed. “I honestly am sorry. I hate all these unknowns and uncertainties.”

“Me too.” She thought of her own concerns with the Nightwatch Society visitor and Xochitl’s email that gave her more questions than answers. Remembering the email, she found herself blurting, “Xochitl said you were watching me during the backstage meet and greet back in February. She said you looked like you wanted to eat me. What did she mean by that?”

The vampire’s lips curved in a wicked smile. “Exactly that.”

“But what—”

Suddenly, he stood behind her. Too late, she realized she’d stepped passed the protective barrier. Valentin’s fingertips swept her hair to the side, and his lips grazed her neck as he whispered, “If you’re asking if I want to sink my teeth into your pretty neck and taste your powerful blood, the answer is yes.”

Before she could respond, he appeared in front of her, his green eyes glowing like dark emeralds. “Or, if you’re asking if I want to part your luscious thighs and plunge my tongue into your plump pussy until you scream my name in pleasure, the answer is also yes.”

Raina shivered uncontrollably as the mental picture he painted sent frissons of arousal jolting between her legs.

“Of course, I will not do either unless you ask me to,” he finished while his eyes continued to blaze emerald flame.

Finally, her faculties recovered enough for her to pull away and step back into the safety of her barrier. “Just because I’m fat doesn’t mean I have low enough self-esteem to fall for your attempts to flatter me.”

Valentin’s eyes hardened. “Just because society often lauds thinner women as paragons of beauty doesn’t mean I have to change my own personal tastes. Nor does it make you any less beautiful. Furthermore, I’ve never felt the need to feign attraction to someone. My flirtations are sincere. It’s one thing if my advances aren’t welcome, but quite another if you think I’m a liar.”

Their worlds were already in a state of unrest when an unexpected betrayal stripped them bare.
Words of hate were uttered and promises broken, leaving them bitter enemies.
One is left fighting for the truth, while the other is left with nothing but a dream.
But time and distance can’t separate them forever and fate seemingly intervenes.
Lines blur as they realize things may not have been what they seemed, and old feelings are resurrected.
But amid salvaging their connection comes another fight.
Hawk’s murky past catches up to him and Brittney is thrust in the middle, leaving him no choice but to fight once more to save the girl he realizes he’s always loved.
Even if it means destroying her dreams and wrecking her heart.
Fighting for her is the only thing that matters, and this is one battle he won’t lose.
Winner takes heart.

EXCERPT

I lock myself in my apartment still trembling inside. After a moment spent taking a breath, I toss my keys on the kitchen table and put my purse beside them and then find my favorite wine. I start to reach for a glass and decide I don’t need it; the bottle will do.
I plop down on my couch and turn on the television in search of something to take my mind off his hate filled green eyes and the way they mocked me. I rest my head on the back of the couch as I swipe away another tear.
He makes me so angry. And the only reason he’s getting to me this much is because I didn’t bury my feelings deep enough. A mistake I’ll be working on tomorrow. But for now, I’ll let the wine drown him out.
I take my first sip as I hear a knock on my door. Probably Briella. Dang Zander and his big mouth. He didn’t want me to be alone because I was so upset. I’m sure he called her.
I unlock the door and almost scream. Not Briella. “What are you doing here, Hawk? And how do you know where I live?”
He sends me a small smile, but it lacks warmth. “Can I come in? We really do need to talk.”
I step aside so he can enter my apartment. Once inside, I walk back to my living room and take my seat back on the couch. He follows me, casually glancing around before sitting on the other end.
I mute the TV. “Let’s hear it. What other insults and stones are you planning to throw at me?”
He stares directly into my eyes. I can’t stand how he makes my heart race even as I want to hate him.
“I know you don’t trust me. And I haven’t forgotten the fact you hate me. You’re not my favorite person either,” he begins.
I roll my eyes. “Is there a point to this?”
His jaw tightens. “Yes. My point is, you’re going to end up in trouble if you get involved with the Leones in any way. They’ve got it out for me and you’re going to get caught in the crossfire.”
“Why? What did you do? Break a promise to them too?” I ask sharply.
He stands and rakes a hand through his dark hair. “The details aren’t what matter. What matters is they’re trying to hurt me, and they’ll use you to do it.”
I stand and lift my chin to meet his gaze. “Then you’re in the clear. There’s no reason coming for me would hurt you. There’s no love lost between the two of us, remember?”
He surprises me by reaching out and tracing my jaw with his finger. His face seems to soften as he relaxes his knit brows, but his eyes blaze. “I remember everything about you, dolcezza. And that means you’re mine to love or to hate. They know too much about my past, and it includes what you used to mean to me.”
I don’t back down. He started this. He thinks I broke my promise to him. I didn’t. And he’s about to learn the truth the hard way. This will probably make him hate me more, but I can’t find it in me to care how it affects him, or even me right now. He took everything else from me, why shouldn’t he take the only other thing I have left to give?
“Come on then. I’ll fulfill one of my promises to you,” I say confidently.
His eyes widen a fraction, almost as if he already knows what I’ll say next. “What are you talking about?”
“I promised you I’d always be yours, and you just said I’m yours to love or hate, yet you’ve never had me.” I pull my shirt over my head and drop it on the floor. “Take me, Hawk. Go ahead and take what’s yours.”

AUTHOR BIO

A.B. Medley lives in Tennessee with the love of her life and two sons. Her husband stole her heart when she was sixteen and their relationship is one of those meant to be love stories you find in magazines and novels.

She is a dental hygienist who loves to read and has always dabbled in writing. When she’s not making people’s smiles shine, she enjoys belting out songs with her boys, dancing, raspberries, baseball, and anything vintage. Like any proper Tennessean, Sundrop is her drink of choice.

She loves her family and friends fiercely and believes in always chasing your dreams.

Deception in the Truth is her debut novel—but now she’s hooked, and there’s more to come.
