The Cruel Dark Book Blitz

The Cruel Dark
Bea Northwick
Publication date: October 31st 2023
Genres: Adult, Gothic, Romance

Millicent Foxboro is haunted.

Not by ghosts, but by the anguish of her past and the uncertainty of her future. After all, even in the progressive year of 1928, most people would balk at hiring a woman who’d spent two months in a mental ward for traumatic amnesia. So when an uncommon assistantship to a reclusive Professor of mythology falls into her lap with an ungodly salary attached, her desperation for stability overrides her cautious nature.

To Millie’s dismay, the widowed Professor Callum Hughes and his estate, Willowfield, are more than she bargained for. The once magnificent home, known for its sprawling gardens and dazzling parties, is falling to pieces after the death of the professor’s fragile wife. What’s more, the staff has been reduced to the only three people not frightened away by rumors of ghosts, leaving the halls empty and languishing in bitter memories.

The professor himself is a grim, intense man with unclear expectations, unpredictable moods, and hungry eyes that ignite Millie’s own dormant passions. The closer she finds herself drawn to Professor Hughes and his strange world of flowers and folklore, the more the house closes in, threatening to reveal her secrets. But the professor is keeping secrets of his own, and the most dangerous of all is hers to discover.

I’d never questioned the presence of my wits more than the moment I stood in the frigid morning air and watched the hired car arrive. The vehicle, sleek and ostentatious, was said to be capable of going fifty miles an hour, and I pretended it was the prospect of that speed making my stomach do somersaults.

The car pulled to a smooth stop, and a tall, ruddy driver unfolded himself from the front seat, introduced himself briefly as Joseph Dempsey, and went to collect my bags. It was short work; I had only one. I wasn’t a woman of means. As the gentleman loaded my valise into the trunk, I ran my bare fingers along the smooth deep sea blue of the wheel hull. This was, undoubtedly, the worst decision I’d ever made, but there were few options, and this was by far the least evil of them.

I glanced over my shoulder to the doorway of the little bookshop I’d come to know as home, where the stooped owner, Mr. Helm, had appeared, his blue eyes uncharacteristically red-rimmed. I’d never seen him on the verge of tears, and my heart constricted painfully. I rushed to him, pulling a thin cotton handkerchief from my pocket. It wasn’t in his character to embrace, so he enveloped both of my hands in his. They were large hands, covered in the ink stains of his trade as an antique book restorer, a business he had been teaching me for the past year despite his once firmly held belief that restoration was not for women.

Mr. Helm had been a tall man in his youth, but the war and many years hunched over a workman’s table had scuttled his stature. I didn’t need to lift my chin to look at his face, which was working to arrange itself into something less aggrieved. I was glad for his trying, because I would call off everything if even one tear rolled down his cheek.

Harleigh Sinclair Book Blitz

Harleigh Sinclair and the Raiders of the Lost Ankh
Tamara Grantham
Publication date: October 17th 2023
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance

Getting confessions from notorious serial killers? Easy.
Stealing priceless Egyptian artifacts? No problem.
Doing it with a cocky, too-handsome-for-his-own-good bad boy? Impossible.

My name is Harleigh Sinclair, and I’m a Neotact. That’s a fancy word for a person who has special powers using touch. My special power? I can touch a person, see into their mind, and find any object they’ve physically contacted. Comes in handy when you’re employed by San Antonio’s wealthiest entrepreneur who’s in the business of finding lost relics. However, my job description does come with a few hitches.

My most recent client is a man named Jagg Ransom. He’s arrogant and too attractive for his own good. My mission is to purchase an ancient Egyptian ankh from him and deliver it to my boss. Sounds easy, right?

But Ransom refuses to cooperate, so I have no choice but to break into his apartment and steal the location of the amulet from his mind. Bad idea. Like, really bad idea.
I find out that this relic happens to be the relic that gave five percent of Earth’s population Neotact powers. I also learn that Ransom isn’t who he says he is, and I’m forced onto a path that will take me from my home in Texas to a hidden dungeon of a Scottish castle, and then into the heart of a deadly Egyptian desert. Finding the ankh is hard enough. Fighting my feelings for Jagg Ransom is worse.

If I can’t find the ankh in time, not only will I be out of a job, but I’ll lose everything I value—including my own life.

Goodreads / Amazon

I’m afraid of the usual: heights, snakes, dirty toilets. Crazy psycho serial killers? Maybe I should’ve been more afraid of them as I walked through the halls of San Antonio’s max security jail.

Detective Mendoza marched alongside me, her stilettos clicking with each step. Her penciled eyebrows didn’t flinch as she stared straight ahead. Generously applied makeup couldn’t hide the wrinkles lining her eyes or the creases around her mouth. She stayed quiet as we paced behind the guards, which clued me in to her current mood. Pure panic. Nothing else would’ve made her speechless.

Wild guess here, but I imagined trying to get a confession from Texas’s most notorious serial killer was a tad bit stressful.

Harsh lights gave the linoleum floors a sterile feeling. I had to suppress a shiver as we passed by the cells. Lean, hungry eyes fixated on me from behind the bars. One of the inmates, a bald man with a tattooed face, glanced at my hands. His eyes widened.

My red leather gloves creased as I flexed my fingers. I stifled the jolt of electricity coursing through my veins.

Yeah. Neotact here. Keep your distance.

I was used to the stares by now.

We reached a room barricaded by a steel door. Keys jangled as one of the guards unlocked the latch.

“I won’t force you to do this,” Mendoza said. “Leave now and I won’t blame you.”

“I’ll be fine.” After everything life had thrown at me, it took more than a little to scare me.

She gave me a shrewd glance. “I’ve already warned you about him. You know what’s at stake, and what he’s accused of…” She trailed off, and though unwanted, the bodies of the mutilated teens intruded on my memories. Beheaded. Their hands surgically removed. I took a deep, cleansing breath and pushed the images away. “Don’t let him get into your head whatever you do,” she finished.

I flexed my hands. “I’m not planning on it.”

“Fine.” Her eyes flicked to the door. “Just be careful in there, all right?”

“Aren’t I always?” I said with an overconfident smile.

She sighed with annoyance. “Sinclair, he’s not like the others. You understand that?”

I gave her my best stern glare. “I got it.”

Mendoza stood tall and ran a hand down a crease in her jacket, returning to her usual demeanor, all business in her navy suit, her hair pulled back in a tight bun with enough gel to make it shine. “I’m counting on you to get a confession. Otherwise, he walks.”

“Trust me, Mendoza. I got this.”

“You’d better.” She narrowed her eyes, then nodded to a guard, and he opened the door.

Through the open doorway, I spotted the prisoner.

Not that I was scared or anything, but this guy gave a serious creepy vibe.

A single bulb buzzed overhead. Metal clasps pinned his hands to the tabletop where he sat, and cuffs linked his ankles to chains bolted to the floor. Gray streaked his unwashed blond hair. Dark eyes peered from a pockmarked face, boring into me with a hatred I could feel from here.

Like I said. Creepy.

Love You Right Freebie Blitz

Love You Right
Julia Kent
(Love You, Maine)
Publication date: April 26th 2022
Genres: Adult, Comedy, Contemporary, Romance

A missed opportunity five years ago makes for an unexpected encounter now between two people meant for each other – but who square off in a very public battle of wills in the small town of Love You, Maine, where every day is Valentine’s Day. Can love conquer all in a town steeped in it?

Kell Luview refuses to be a sucker at love again. Five years ago, he left D.C. with his tail between his legs and his heart broken. Fiercely protective of his small town in rural Maine, he’s determined to save the family tree business and avoid his feelings at all costs, no matter how much he longs to solve the mystery of what happened in D.C.

L.A. native Rachel Hart hates being underestimated almost as much as she hates this small town. She has two goals on this trip: get out of the cheesy tourist trap of Love You, Maine with a completed business deal, and avoid running into Kell, her old friend from D.C. who never became an old flame because of a huge misunderstanding.

One that still aches.

When her rental car breaks down on a logging road and Kell comes to her rescue, it’s clear he’s a changed man – and not for the good. Grumpy and reserved, he pushes all her buttons, still stubbornly convinced she betrayed him all those years ago. He’s never forgiven her, and she’s never forgiven herself for carrying a torch for him.

An embarrassing incident gets the town gossip mill going when residents wrongly assume Kell and Rachel are the newest couple to find love in the most romantic place on Earth. But the townsfolk aren’t wrong for long…

As Rachel breaks through his defenses and charms the town, he faces his biggest fear: all those pesky feelings he’s been avoiding.

Because they’re all about Rachel now.

And maybe they always were.

Can Kell and Rachel fight their growing attraction in the one place in the world where you can’t avoid love?

If you’re looking for a fun read about enemies to lovers, forced proximity, heroines who get their comeuppance and sworn bachelors felled by unexpected true love, featuring a hot bearded lumberjack impervious to poison ivy, and a city-slicker, jaded career woman with a penchant for great coffee, set in a small town in New England – then this is your book.

Grab a cup of (properly good) coffee, a can of hot cocoa mix, a jar of Fluff and maybe some calamine lotion (just in case), and get your happymeter ready as you read the very first book in New York Times bestselling romantic comedy author Julia Kent’s Love You, Maine series – where love isn’t just a feeling – it’s a way of life.

“Kell,” she whispered against his mouth. “Thank you.”

“For what?”

“For this.” She motioned at the romantic dinner he’d created for the two of them, the wide table in this conference room an ample spread for a…

Ample spread.

“We haven’t even had dinner. Thank me after.”

She batted her eyelashes. “Is that an offer?”

“Rachel,” he said, moving his hand from her waist to cup her ass. “That’s more than an offer.”

He started to kiss her again, but she put her fingers on his lips. “If we don’t eat dinner first, we’ll never eat. And I have a meeting here in this very room, to try to pitch the deal again, in three days. Boundaries, Kell – boundaries. I refuse to have sex on this conference table.”

“The thought never, ever occurred to me,” he lied.

With a deep laugh he adored, she reached for the bottle of wine. “How about you uncork this and we start with a lovely glass.”

“Fine. The table is off the table.”

Blood Mate Book Blitz

Blood Mate
Kitty Thomas
Publication date: October 25th 2023
Genres: Adult, Paranormal, Romance

Blood Mate, a dark fairy tale…

Nicole has been happily married to big shot attorney, Dominic Rose for ten years, but soon after their anniversary he grows cold–as if she doesn’t exist. Meanwhile, another man has been pursuing her far too intently for comfort.

August Corinth is a six-hundred-year-old vampire, cursed to kill and suffer the pain of his victims each night until he can find the one woman who can resist his thrall, his blood mate. Once he’s found her, there are no lines he won’t cross to claim the promised salvation even if it means taking away everything and everyone she loves.

Goodreads / Amazon

He rose in a preternaturally fluid way and strode across the cellar floor. Nicole cowered, as if she had any hope of escaping him when she’d seen the futility of a powerful man’s attempt. She had nothing like the strength of that man, and now he was so much meat, waiting to be returned to the earth to fertilize something else.

August took her hand more gently than she’d expected after what he’d done. She couldn’t stop shaking.

“Please… please not me,” she whispered, her eyes focused on the ground. She couldn’t meet that terrifying, glowing gaze. Although a man had died, her thoughts and fears were for her own fate.

His hand trailed through her hair. “Not you,” he agreed. “And not any of the rest of them if you’ll consent to what I propose. Their lives are in your hands, Nicolette.”

She turned to the cages with four people still alive. They looked like prisoners of war. Shell-shocked. Almost like animals instead of people.

“W-what do you mean their lives are in my hands?”

Was this because she wouldn’t date him? He’d terrorize people until she did? Did he think she could ever love him amidst such conditions? What was wrong with him that he would become so fixated on her? Why her? Why not move on to someone else who returned his affection? Now that his looks were back, it was impossible to see how he couldn’t find someone to share his bed willingly. As long as they didn’t know the gory details. Those light hazel eyes glowing against the backdrop of warm, brown skin and jet-black hair. That tall, sleek athletic frame. Man-candy was the phrase her friends at work would have used.

“Vampirism is a curse,” he said quietly. “It’s not like in the movies. I am made to suffer. If I don’t feed, I suffer until I do. Inevitably I must feed. When I feed, I can’t stop until my meal is dead. I must take one each night or what you saw happening to my body starts. At first I just age, but after about three days it turns into what you saw.

I don’t want to kill. I don’t want to hurt anybody, but I have no choice. Do you know the heavy weight that is on my soul? All those human lives?”

“Why don’t you end your life, then? Is survival of such great value that you would kill every night to keep it going? Am I supposed to feel bad for you when you could greet the sun?”

She ignored the fact that she’d first met him in the daylight.

He smiled sadly. “Would that it were so simple and easily remedied. Do you think I haven’t tried? I’ve tried everything to end my life. Nothing works. I’m only allowed death if I should pass this curse to another. I wouldn’t die automatically, but I would be capable of it, at least. If I passed the cup to someone else and died, what new torments would await me on the other side for such a heinous sin against another soul? After what I’ve suffered, do you think I could bring myself to give it to another to carry? If I did, I truly am a monster with no further excuses.”

Nicole’s gaze shifted to the cages. “I don’t understand how I can save them.”

“By giving yourself to me.”

“Okay, you wild banshees, costumes are ready to go!” I called up the stairs. Instantly, I heard the pounding of little feet as Lily and Ethan raced down the stairs, with Lily predictably in the lead, eager to transform into their Halloween alter-egos.

“Beware the Headless Horseman!” Lily cried, tossing her hooded cape dramatically over her grinning face. Next to her, Ethan was assembling his white boxy Minecraft costume, complete with pixelated foam sword.

I knelt down and made the final adjustments, securing Ethan’s headpiece and Lily’s belt, then ushered them toward the door. “Let’s hit those sidewalks before all the good candy is gone!” I declared.

It was still light outside when we stepped out onto the porch. Ghosts, superheroes, princesses, and witches were already parading up and down the street as families got the trick-or-treating underway. The crisp air twinkled with magic and excitement as neighbors called out compliments on costumes, and I inhaled the heavenly, smoky scent of burning wood that several people were using to keep warm as they passed out candy.

We weren’t far into our route when I heard rapid footsteps approaching. Lily and Ethan’s faces lit up as Scott and his son came into view dressed in matching blow-up dinosaur costumes. I couldn’t help laughing as I watched their giant dino heads bobble to and fro as they swished toward us.

“Hey, guys!” Scott greeted, slightly out of breath. Since our pumpkin carving hangout, we’d been planning for the kids to do Halloween night trick-or-treating together too. I was relieved he was making it easy for me to take this second opportunity with no strings attached.

“Dad, can we go show Ms. Molly our costumes?” Lily asked eagerly.

I nodded indulgently, enjoying seeing my kids having a good time. After waiting a few moments for Lily, Ethan, and Stanley to run up the walkway to show off their costumes to their principal, we began a slow, easy walk from house to house, stealing pieces of candy here and there, as the kids ran back and forth down driveways and bonded with each other more.

After defeating the Green Man, you’d think there wasn’t much else for me to be afraid of in this world.

But then again, you never met my family.

When my mother’s attacked, Thelma and I are whisked off to Las Vegas to find out what happened. The whole thing stinks, especially after I found out a deep, hidden secret three months ago. A secret that explains why my childhood was filled with alcohol and pain.

But secrets are the name of the game in the City of Sin. And it turns out the attack on my mother is linked to a name I’ve been hearing in whispers for months now. A name associated with demons and ancient forest gods. Someone who is a myth, even among the gods and goddesses that walk the earth.

Evan Constantine.

Now with the help of my voodoo practicing girlfriend, a trickster spirit and a crazy goddess who might just help me or chop my head off (depending on what her pet lizard tells her), I need to find out who’s after my mother.

I just know it’s going to take a good amount of luck to survive Vegas.

Especially when the house always wins.

Warning: This urban fantasy contains snarky gods and goddesses, action, mythological beasties, and a good ole’ murder mystery. If you’re a fan of Neil Gaiman, Jim Butcher, Patricia Briggs or Seanan McGuire, you’ll love this brand new world where ancient forgotten gods walk hidden among us, and angels and demons fight for our very souls.

“So let me get this straight,” Thelma asked through clenched teeth. “Someone got you drunk, and because of that you destroyed my shop?”

“Technically, he destroyed your shop.” Coyote nodded at me. I grasped Thelma’s hand, giving it a gentled squeeze in hopes to prevent her from throttling the cocky bastard. Coyote looked calm, but I could see his own fury bubbling underneath. My anger was there too, don’t get me wrong, but I tend to not slap around angry gods unless I absolutely have to.

“And no, I was not drunk,” Coyote snapped. “If I was drunk, this would be a lot more interesting than the Elk Man visiting you. Someone did this to me,” he said, astonished and pissed. He jumped to his feet and paced with increasing rage.

We all flinched back, including Thelma.

“This is unacceptable.” The god paced in anger. “If Crow did this, I’ll make his feathers fall out for a millennium. Kaulu, Loki, Iktomi, I don’t care who did this, they will feel my wrath—”

“Are you done?” I asked. “Because I have my own questions.” “You’re going to piss in my cornflakes, flesh bag?” Coyote growled as he glared at me.

I didn’t budge. “You heard me. I’ve just cleaned up your mess, and we deserve some answers.”

“And why should I answer them?” Coyote snarled.

“Because you owe us. We saved you the embarrassment of having the city destroyed by your wet dream.”

For a moment I thought I’d pushed him too far, but I was too exhausted to care.

Then Coyote smiled, and that was far scarier. “That’s true,” he said. “That’s very, very true. Raven would never let me hear the end of it.”

“You don’t remember anything from last night?” I asked. “No strange magic? No obvious enemies around?”

“I always have enemies around,” Coyote said, “but no one special last night. I passed out around two in the morning and ended up here. Someone… did this to me,” he repeated.

“But who could pull off something like that?”

Coyote cocked his head. “Well, that’s a longer list than I care to admit.”

“What do you mean?” Thelma asked. “I don’t know of anything that has the juju to do that.”

“These days are a-changing, little mambo priestess,” Coyote said.

Thelma’s teeth clenched again. I glanced over at Jake, expecting an angry retort, but he remained stoic, taking everything in but revealing nothing. His silence worried me.

“There’s magic on the wind,” Coyote explained, as if talking to small children. “Someone is gathering belief, working like little Worm himself, digging under the cities of logic and reason.”

“Someone is collecting belief?” I asked. “What does that even mean?”

“It means someone’s messing with the natural order of things,” Coyote said. Taking his sunglasses off, he glared at me with one

brown eye and one dark green. “Only my brothers and I are allowed to do that. So, watch your back, little half-man, because someone set this up in your backyard. Someone believes you’re more important than me, and that’s unacceptable.”

A sudden wind blew smoke and ash in my face, and I flinched from his gaze to wipe my eyes. When I opened them again, Coyote had disappeared.

10 Lucky Winners will win a Digital Code To Disney's Haunted Mansion Movie!

BURBANK, Calif. (September 10, 2023) – Disney announced today at Destination D23 in Orlando that “Haunted Mansion,” the hit film inspired by the classic theme park attraction, will begin streaming on Disney+ and arrive at digital retail on October 4, 2023.

I absolutely love Disney's Haunted Mansion..... as this was always one of my absolute favorite rides at Disney! Inspired by the classic theme park attraction, Haunted Mansion tells the story of Gabbie (Rosario Dawson), a single mom, who discovers that the home she and her son share is haunted by irksome ghosts. Hoping to restore domestic tranquility, Gabbie recruits a motley crew of so-called spiritual experts to help rid the house of the supernatural squatters. A non-stop blend of action, adventure and comedy featuring an all-star cast that includes LaKeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Danny DeVito, Dan Levy, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto, Haunted Mansion was written by Katie Dippold and directed by Justin Simien. The film’s producers are Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich, with Nick Reynolds and Tom Peitzman serving as executive producers.
