“After an earthquake wreaks havoc, the earth is left
disturbed and altered. Whatever remains in ruin is left shaken and in need of
rebuilding.”
Scarlett Brooks doesn't need love. The only men she can
trust in her life are her twin brother and his two best friends, Logan and
Caleb. Every other guy has only let her down, and she promises herself to never
to experience heartbreak again.
Logan King can't stand back and watch his best friend's twin
sister continue to spiral out of control. With random hookups, drunken nights,
and reckless decisions, she is on the path to self-destruction. He sets out to
slow her down and prove that she isn't happy with her one-night stands.
The two come dangerously close to crossing lines. Is
Scarlett capable of trusting and opening up to love again? Will it ruin their
friendship if Logan is the one to teach her how?
This is part of a series but can be read as a standalone.
Characters are introduced in Jolted and Impacted.
Logan towered
over me, glaring down as heat radiated off his body. I have pissed
him off numerous times; I was pretty good at it. Knowing him as well
as I did told me what buttons to push to get him riled up. But I had
never seen him quite this disturbed. His shoulders were tight, eyes a
stormy dark gray, and his chest heaved from the deep breaths.
Logan was never
understanding of my "romantic" life. He never hid that from
me, so in a way, I'm not entirely surprised. What did have me shocked
was how serious he was taking our little game. It seemed he was dead
set on teaching me a lesson and following through with his plans.
"Alright,"
I sighed. "I wasn't going to leave with him. Relax."
"Relax?"
he asked, as if it was a ridiculous request. "Do you need the
attention to feel better about yourself? Do you get off on reeling
them in and putting them under your spell?"
"Stop it,"
I demanded as I pushed at his chest to get him to back away. His
towering stance was intimidating, and his accusations were pissing me
off.
"Did you
like the way he groped you like he already owned you?" he asked
in a growl as he pressed closer, despite my shoving hands.
His hand gripped
my upper thigh where the baseball's player hand was previously. A
breath of air left my body as he pushed me against his truck and
pinned me in place. Heat from his firm grasp seeped through my jeans,
warming me. My skin tingled with anticipation and a ball of warmth
grew deep inside me.
"Logan,"
I warned.
"Scarlett,"
he said, lowering his voice. "Don't you see? You can't let just
anyone claim you."
His knee pushed
between my legs, forcing them apart. His body was touching mine
everywhere, and all I could feel was Logan. His breath flirted across
the side of my face, and my heart stuttered before taking off in a
sprint.
I've been in this
position before, and many others as well. I had been groped, felt up,
and made out with a passion. The excitement and need I was feeling
now was unfamiliar to me. My body seemed to forget the motions I
usually went through on autopilot. I was frozen with confusion and
lust. What the hell was happening to me?
"Tell me
no," he whispered in my ear, sending a shiver up my spine. The
hand on my upper thigh held my leg in place, while the other coasted
up my hip and stopped to rest on my ribs. His nose tickled as he
rubbed it down my cheek to my neck.
"Do it,
love. Tell me no," he told me once more.
My head and my
body engaged in a battle. This was Logan touching me and turning me
into a pile of hormonal goo. The urge to touch him and pull him
impossibly closer was fighting it's way through the chaos while my
brain was screaming to stop this madness.
"No."
The words leaked out of my lips on a soft breath and lingered in the
charged air.
His body left
mine in haste, and I instantly felt cold. My mind spun, trying to
catch up with what had just happened. Did Logan really touch me like
that? Did he make me feel want and need like I am supposed to? Was
regret and remorse swirling around now that we were no longer
touching?
