Excerpt 1: Attraction — Caly/Blake Underwear Scene

With her hand hovering over the door handle, her mind was flooded with thoughts of how she hadn’t really thought this through. She jumped ten feet up in the air when the door suddenly swung wide open.

Blake. Blake was standing there... in nothing but red boxer briefs. She swallowed at the unexpected male underwear model scene. Meanwhile, she was only adding to the scene by standing there in nothing but his white T-shirt which barely covered her butt. Nope. Not awkward at all.

He inhaled and immediately said, “Caly, what’s wrong?” His voice was low, morning gravel.

“I… I had a nightmare,” she admitted on a shy whisper.

Both Blake and his wolf liked that she ran to him when she was scared. He would protect her from anything and anyone. But he didn’t like that she was scared to begin with.

Still half asleep and on autopilot, he picked her up and held her close to his chest.

“You’re safe, Caly,” he reassured her and felt her body relax as she curled in closer. It wasn’t until he was a few steps into his current mission that it hit him. Walking Caly to his room in nothing but his boxers while all she wore was his T-shirt, which he most definitely approved of, was so not a part of the gentlemale plan. Fuck it. She needed him. Quietly shutting the door behind him, he made his way to his bed and gently laid her down.

Now what, genius? he thought, as his sleepy state faded away a bit more. He was just standing over her in nothing but his boxer briefs. Yeah, real gentlemale of you.

“Blake?”

“Yeah, Caly?”

Christ. He wanted to punch himself. Maybe that would knock some sense into him instead of standing there basically naked.

“Will you… Will you stay? Please?”

Okay... So, he wasn’t expecting that. But then again, she did come to him for comfort. He wanted to say, Caly, I will never leave you. But that probably wasn’t the brightest idea at the moment, considering the boxer brief situation.

“Of course," he said as his eyes automatically flicked toward the couch. Before he could command his feet to move, she peeled back the covers next to her and looked at him in question.

Gentlemale. Remember your gentlemale plan, he thought, sliding into the bed next to her and keeping a respectable distance.

That was when he noticed the light coming from the bathroom. Remembering what Caly said about it being complete darkness where she was held, he wanted to go round two with the punches. He was so used to being able to see in the dark that it didn’t register how dark his room was at night. He inwardly cursed. He should’ve thought of that. He decided he was going to rectify the situation and get her a night light. Actually, make that plural: night lights. Yeah, he was going to light up his room like it was a Christmas tree.

What are you doing? Caly thought. You’re now in bed next to him practically naked. Again, notice how he is keeping his distance? Congratulations. You’ve just breached the clinger scale and are now off the charts.

Laying on their backs, with eyes glued to the ceiling, they both stayed silent for several minutes.

“Blake?”

“Yeah, Caly?”

“I’m sorry. I don’t mean to make you uncomfortable. I…”

Just come out and say it, McClinger Queen.

“I just feel safe with you.” She paused. “I had a nightmare about…” Suddenly, she had a lump in her throat. She swallowed.

About the Author:

M.C. Solaris’s life took an unexpected turn during the super blood moon eclipse on January 20, 2019. She woke up and began writing bios for her imaginary friends that she met that day. As soon as the pen hit the paper (or fingertips to the iPhone), she couldn’t stop. It was kind of like one of those fire hydrants, spewing copious amounts of water all over the place. The characters and their stories just flowed out of her. She is honored to be the scribe, getting to share her friends’ stories. You can read all about her gifted friends in the Orion’s Order series (Book 1 is Calypso’s Heart).

On a personal note, M.C. Solaris is actually the pseudonym of Marina Schroeder, women’s health enthusiast and lover of all things paranormal romance (PNR) and happily ever after (HEA). When she is not curled up on the sofa with her partner’s oversized hoodie, a PNR novel, peppermint tea, and one of her three cats, you will find her either at the ocean with her toes in the sand or in a forest hugging a tree. Excerpt 2 Sexual Tension — Caly/Blake Dishwashing

Blake walked over to Caly who was still playing dishwasher at the kitchen sink. His body was just inches away from pressing up close behind her when he reached around either side of her body to place the dishes in the warm and soapy sink. With his hands tangled with hers in the sudsy water, he pressed in close to her backside and kissed her neck. He didn’t care if anyone saw. Hell, it was good if they did see because he was publicly claiming her (as if it wasn’t clear enough already).

“I like how you look in my clothes,” he whispered in her ear.

God, she suddenly remembered that she was the Midol period model. Hot. And it was literally starting to get hot with him behind her all close like that.

“Thank you for the coffee and muffin this morning. It honestly was—”

The most thoughtful thing anyone has ever done for me and I cried.

“Really thoughtful.”

“My pleasure," he said in a low voice only meant for her.

She shuddered at the vibrations coming from his chest. It felt as if she was pressed up to a bass speaker. The source of vibrating heat at her back disappeared when Blake rolled away and leaned against the counter in a smooth motion.

As if he didn’t just tease her, he casually continued the conversation, “I intended to have Felix stay in the room with you when you woke but he was hell-bent on following me around.”

Damn if that wasn’t the icing on the cake to her already melting heart.

Speaking of which, where is Felix? she wondered.

As if he read her mind, he gestured with his head to where the twins were sprawled out on the massive couches. And, yeah, Felix was there curled up on Rhyker’s chest. It was a cat nap triad.

See, Caly thought with a smile. She knew Rhyker was a big ol’ softy under that bad boy facade.

“Who usually cleans up around here?” she asked, placing another dish in the dishwasher.

“The general rule is clean up after yourself. And, well, we haven’t all sat down and had a meal together like that in…” He paused in thought. “Ever.”

“Ever?” Caly said with brows popped.

“Sure, sometimes we eat at the same time but it’s more like someone will grab something quick, like a bowl of cereal or a muffin. Or we’ll just order pizza like last night. Usually, the only ones cooking meals are the twins and they tag team and have their own system down. And, yeah, the twins do the shopping and everyone just pitches in for groceries. Once we tried to take turns on the shopping task but that turned out into a brawl when the bacon was forgotten.”

She laughed as he helped her load the last couple of dishes.

“By the way, breakfast was good. Thank you.” He kissed her on the cheek and she blushed.

As if he liked her reaction, he turned her chin toward him with the crook of his finger and kissed her. It was slow as if savoring his favorite dessert. He wanted to take her right there. He imagined lifting her to the edge of the counter, settling between her thighs, slipping his hoodie over her head, leaning down to taste...

Later, he commanded his mind to cut off the fantasy. But that didn’t mean he couldn’t deepen the kiss. When his tongue slid in to dance with hers, a wolf whistle sounded from the twins' direction. Blake sent them the middle finger while his attention remained on Caly. He playfully nipped at her lower lip and the corners of his lips turned up in a closed-lipped smile. He took a step back leaving some space between them.

“Come on. I’ll show you around the rest of the house.” He tried to sound casual as if that kiss did not just make him want to only show her his bedroom.

Putty. Her legs were putty. It took a moment for them to receive the command from her brain that told them to move. The things this male did to her. Yeah, she was screwed. She recalled the tender moments and deep intimacy they shared last night. She remembered feeling safe while sleeping peacefully and when she blinked her eyes open, she was greeted with hot coffee and a muffin. And, yeah, now the PDA. She felt her mind hop back on the overanalyze express.

Stop, she commanded the railroad conductor. She had to get off that train, and fast... because it was so not the time for that merry go round.

“I know it’s totally stupid but I had playlists for everything. Music is therapeutic to me. And when I wasn’t in the mood for music, I would curl up on the couch with Felix, a hot drink and—” She abruptly cut herself off.

Oh my god! she thought, almost letting it slip that she was a romance novel junkie. Em-fucking-barrassing!

“And?” he prompted genuinely curious about Caly’s life before the horror.

“Nothing," she said, trying to play it off all cool.

“Oh, come on. You can’t just leave me hanging like that,” he teased a little, trying to lighten the mood.

Caly laughed. “It’s embarrassing.”

“Well, I’ll share something about me if you share.”

“Fine.” Her cheeks heated. “And I would read romance novels.” She held her breath waiting for his reaction.

Blake’s brows furrowed slightly in confusion. “I’m going to go off on a limb here and say romance novels are about falling in love. So, what’s embarrassing about that?”

“You’re right. Not embarrassing at all. Your turn," Caly said, eager to change the subject.

He sniffed the air and gave her a look that said “Spill.”

“You’re not going to let this go, are you?”

“Nope.”

“Okay. Fine.” Her words came out on an exhale. “I like the romance novels with…” She hesitated. “...Hot steamy sex scenes. Happy now?”

“Oh, do you now?” he drawled.

“Okay, your turn. Tell me something embarrassing about you.”

“I said I would share something about myself. I didn’t say something embarrassing.” He gave her a wolfish grin.

“You sly wolf.”

“I can’t help it.”

“Okay, fine. So share something about yourself with me, wolf.” Her mouth turned up at the corners at their playful game.

“Well, how about I share how I am suddenly thinking about wanting to show up all those hot steamy romance novels you’ve read.”

Way to go with the gentlemale plan, he thought, wanting to kick himself. He was so caught up in the playful banter with his female tucked close against his body that he forgot all about how he was going to keep his distance.

“Oh, come on," she said with a laugh. “That doesn’t count. Share something else about yourself.” Caly looked up slightly only to see he had his wolfy grin. So, she quickly added, “Something that is comparable.”

He chuckled. “Well, I had long hair once. When I was younger. It did not suit me. At all. Which also reminds me, I look weird without facial hair.”

Caly laughed at the unexpected confession. She was suddenly trying to picture what Blake would look like with long hair and clean-shaven. “I wanna see a picture. Please tell me you have one.”

“Now that would be the embarrassing part.” His smile widened. “Maybe one day I’ll show you.”

“I had another dream about Mr. Mysterious. You know, with the gorgeous golden eyes…” She exhaled out a dreamy sigh. “Except…” Her thoughts trailed off as she recalled just how strange the dream ended up. She lazily reached her hand toward the sound of Felix’s purrs, as if they were a homing beacon. Her hand landed on what felt like jean fabric on something solid and warm. The instant contact was made, it flexed.

Muscle? she silently questioned and her brows furrowed slightly. She coaxed her heavy eyelids open and she was met with a pair of impossibly golden eyes… the eyes belonging to the handsome man in her dreams… who just happened to be sitting on her bed next to her.

“Nevermind Felix… I’m still dreaming," Caly said with a relaxed half-smile. God. This man is taking over my dreams… But she wasn’t complaining.

“Mr. Mysterious?” Blake teased with a slight curve of his lips.

She sleepily laughed. “You’re not supposed to know your own nickname.” She looked down and saw that Felix was curled up in his lap purring in utter bliss. Damn if that wasn’t cute. And damn if he wasn’t even more gorgeous this close up. She scratched Felix behind the ears in just the spot he loved. “Even if this is a dream, if Felix likes you, then you can’t be that bad,” she admitted with another lazy chuckle. “He hissed at the last guy I brought home. And it turned out Felix was right. That guy was an ass.”

Blake steered his thoughts away from the sudden desire to go find whoever this guy was and teach him a lesson. Jesus. Stay focused.

“Caly, this is not a dream.”

“Yes it is. How else is the most handsome man with the gorgeous golden eyes from my dreams here, in my bed?” Her body was reacting in a very feminine way to his masculine presence. She wanted him and her body knew that.

There was another curve of his lips and his chest puffed out a little more than necessary. What was this female doing to him? Focus, he repeated the silent order.

“You know that I’m Blake from Orion’s Order. But what I don’t know is how you know that.”

Scenting the slightest hint of her arousal in the air, his body began to react in response. Jesus. Her scent is like a drug, Blake thought on an internal groan.

Hell, this is a dream, Caly thought. So, who was she to deny herself? Besides, with all that eye gazing in the other dreams, okay minus the kidnapping one, it felt like she knew him on some level. Still utterly relaxed and now a little sinfully playful, she closed the distance between them and curled up against his body—his very warm and muscled body. With a graceful leap, Felix padded off the bed to his favorite sun spot on the window sill, hidden behind the curtain where it trapped the most heat.

Wow. He smells so good. It was a dark, musky, masculine scent. Natural though—not some artificial store-bought scent. She sighed deeply. This was turning out to be a very good dream. She curled up next to him. She fit perfectly as if her body was meant to be at his side.

Blake went to put his arm around her shoulder and stopped midway. What was he doing? Focus damn it. Since when had a female had him reacting like this?
