Only true beauty can tame the beast...
Allyse Montlake needs a job and quick. But what can a curvy girl with a penchant for plant magic do in the current job market? It’s just not the kind of thing that most people put on applications these days. To help her mother with medical expenses, she has to get something that pays more than her bookstore job. When she goes with her friend Cara to a job fair, she has no idea she’s just applied for a position on Extreme Bachelor—in front of the camera and not behind the scenes as she intended. When she meets the man behind the mystique, can he love her for who she is and see the beauty behind the curves?
Soren Rochester is a werewolf and the owner of Barks, one of America’s most successful pet store chains. He also happens to be fighting a curse from one pissed off witch, and he’s running short on time to find a mate or else. When his assistant suggests a reality television show, he reluctantly agrees. Can this beast find true love amidst the glittering dresses of the contestants, or will he find her only to lose her in a field of thorns?
Candy Corn: A Taming the Beast Halloween short

“Mr. Stinky, you will wear that hot dog costume and you will like it.” Allyse tapped her foot in irritation on the marble floor as she glared down at her cranky little pup. She’d been trying to get him to stand still so she could snap a picture for the last ten minutes and he was being fifty shades of difficult.
The Chihuahua gave her a gimlet stare from beneath the floppy felt dollop of mustard on his head, the bun and condiments covering the rest of his body like a sausage. He sat near the front door trying to paw the offending hat off his head.
Goddess but he was the most adorable thing she’d ever seen.
“How’s the wrestling match going?” Her husband Soren approached, his little dog Hailey in his arms. The little black Cairn terrier was dressed in a pink princess dress complete with a sparkling tiara.
“Not so good. This one could give Grumpy Cat a run for his money.”
Soren laughed. “I believe it.”
Mrs. Dashnell, the cook hurried into the room. “I’ll be. You two are going to make the children smile with those costumes. Now you better hurry. I saw some trick or treaters coming down the front drive from the dining room windows.”
“What do I have to do?” Soren’s worried eyes met his wife’s and she laid a hand on his arm. His first Halloween with the gates open, he had yet to experience the joy of sharing the holiday with a horde of candy munching children. Twilight now taking over the sky, her reclusive husband was starting to panic. Darned if she didn’t think it was cute. A werewolf afraid of a few human children. Go figure.
“You hold Hailey and I’ll put Mr. Stinky at my feet. He’ll watch the kids and I’ll hand out candy. Easy, peasy.” She reached up and gave him a peck on the cheek that quickly turned hot when he tilted her face toward his. Her man. Her sexy beast. Goddess, she couldn’t wait to get him all to herself after the kids had gone and the puppies were put to bed. Then she’d show him what she could do with his um…broomstick.
The sound of a throat clearing brought her back.
“I have an idea.” Mrs. Dashnell rushed into the kitchen, the white swinging door flapping behind her.
“What’s she doing?”
Hailey grumped in Soren’s arms and he absently patted her head.
Mrs. D. burst from the kitchen with the candy bowl and a small packet of yellow and orange candies in her hand.
“What’s that?”
“Candy corn, silly.” Allyse took one of the packets. “Thanks. I’ll bet this will work just fine.”
“For what?”
“You’ll see.” Allyse fiddled with the package, opening it and taking out two pieces.
“Give one to Hailey. See what she does.”
Soren made a face. “If you’re sure…”
“I’m sure. Look.” She bent down and held the sweet in front of Mr. Stinky’s mouth and the little dog inhaled it. He snorted and pawed her leg for more. “See?”
“Huh. Okay.” Soren held the candy to Hailey’s mouth and she nibbled at it delicately. Once she got a taste, she gobbled it down pressing her head against his chin.
“I think she liked it.”
“Of course she did. Now come on. Let’s show those kids how we do Halloween and maybe if you’re good later…”
“Hmmm?” Soren lifted his eyebrow with a saucy expression.
Allyse winked, scooping up Mr. Stinky and heading out the front door. “Then I’ll teach you how to howl at the moon.”
“Oh, I don’t think you’ll have any problem doing that, Mrs. Rochester. Not one bit.”
