What happens when…
after leaving the place you called home,
to forget the girl you loved,
knowing she chose someone else,
you must now return for a wedding you can’t bear to watch.

So, you pay a beautiful girl…
to trek across the country with you,
pretending the two of you have plans for a new future,
faking a relationship in front of your old crew,
unprepared for when she slams those rounded, green eyes into you.

Suddenly, you realize…
you are actually over the bride and ready to move on,
quite sure the feelings you’ve been pretending to have,
aren’t so fake after all,
yet, she needs the money, so you continue to play along.

Trying your damnedest not to fall…
to remember she’s an ‘employee’ you paid to come along,
and keep a promise of no romantic entanglements,
until that one moment, when you know,
you have finally found your forever.

Except for the secrets that threaten it all…
an uninvited guest from her past shows up at the wedding,
threatening to crumble your dreams,
and even if she still picks you,
your dark secrets might just end everything.

Excerpt

Back at the villa, I grabbed a beer from the fridge and retreated to the balcony. I’d missed the Oregon air. The smell of the Green Douglas Firs. I was home.
“Austin?”
Lifting my brows, I waited for what she had to say.
“You’ve done so much for me. I know that I owe you and…”
The chair flew back hitting the wall when I shot up. “Don’t, Phoebe. I paid you to come here with me, nothing more. Don’t do a goddamn thing because you think you owe me. I kissed you because I felt like kissing you. You should have just said no. I’d have respected that. But don’t kiss me because you feel some fucked up obligation.”
I stepped past her, rage boiling beneath the surface, and I stormed back inside.
“I didn’t kiss you because I felt obligated,” she whispered. “I’ve imagined that kiss a thousand times in my head since I met you.”
I stopped in my tracks and slowly pivoted around.
“Those kisses trumped every fantasy kiss I’ve had but…”
“No buts,” I stated, setting my beer on the table. I swallowed as I strode purposefully toward her without reservation. The deal sealed when she started walking too.

Author Bio

Just the fact that someone may be reading my ‘bio’ thrills me. What does one say in an author bio? Well, I LOVE to write! Sometimes characters talk to me in my head (in a non-psychotic way) and I have to get what they are saying out on paper! So, here we are! :)

I am a part-time juvenile probation officer and full-time wife, but I spend the majority of the time helping my two favorite, college-aged sons navigate through life and hopefully become the best humans they can be.

I am a huge fan of the Kansas Jayhawks, the Oregon Ducks, the Chicago Cubs (I have a dog named Wrigley) and the Kansas City Chiefs.

I’m terribly addicted to music—ALLLLL kinds and driving in the car with the sunroof open and radio turned up helps the creative juices flow.

I am deliciously addicted to queso and cupcakes; but even with that…I like to slowly kill my body with Crossfit. I’m annoyingly sarcastic.

People ask me ‘what has been your favorite book to write’—I would have to say my original series. (I think it sold 100 copies)  J   FINALLY, I’m tweaking them! My heart was poured into these books—but they needed tweaking.  Slick was my Amazon best seller, but every one of them mean something to me.

In the end, I truly believe life is taken way too seriously by most. I say enjoy every moment, have an adult beverage and READ!! Cheers….

"I can't get over how big this place is." Tris'Tyn's voice broke Bash's sexual fantasy starring Freya.
"It's huge, so large that you're not sure how to deal with all of it." A grin flashed on Freya's face. Bash scowled at her choice of words as memories of the first time they made love surfaced. She'd never seen one in person before and worried he wouldn't fit. He'd proven that theory wrong.
"It's nothing like the Resistance camp I came from."
"That's because they weren't the Resistance." Bash growled as he raised an eyebrow at Freya.
"I meant to ask what you meant by the 'real Resistance'." Tris'Tyn's gaze bounced to her.
"You don't have to worry about that anymore. You're with us now and soon we'll strike the final blow to ARI and the Sovereign. Then everyone will be free." Nova interjected with a glare at both Freya and him. Busted.
After Tris'Tyn and Nova got off the lift, Freya grinned at him. When she straightened from the wall as the doors opened at their stop, Bash swooped her up into his arms then tossed her over his shoulder. It brought back memories of the first time he'd done it at the safe house where they'd stayed right after they met.
"Are you serious right now?" Her fists pounded against his back.
"Sorry, not sorry." He didn't hold back the laugh. "But if you want to give me a massage, my lower back is a bit tight."
She slapped his ass before giving in. Just like last time, there was only so far she could go without hurting him and he knew she wouldn't risk that.
Placing his hand against the wall to reveal the bioscanner, he remembered it was unnecessary. All he had to do now was imagine the door opening and his nanites used the wireless communication system to pass the security codes and open the door. Another thought sealed the door as he tossed Freya on the bed.
Scrambling to sit up, she glared at him. "Was that really necessary?"
"Not in the slightest, but it was fun.

Tagline: A witch and a vampire must work together to take down the ruthless head of a human trafficking ring.

Book Description:

When tarot card reader Gillian Howe hosts a supernatural speed dating event, she’s hopeful to discover her chance at love. Making the perfect match is her passion.

Too bad she can’t find one for herself. A chance encounter with a wealthy vampire soon finds her plunged into a secret society of trancing, blood bonds, and human escort rings. She’ll need help to survive, but the vampire detective is the last person she wants...even if he is scorching hot.

Garrett Mulroney’s sire tried to force him into a life of debauchery, but he chose to uphold the law instead. The fact that the one woman he can’t seem to get out of his lust-filled dreams is at the center of his investigation doesn’t bode well. It's a good thing she hates his guts, because it helps douse his growing desire for her and focus on the case. But when Gillian’s cousin is kidnapped into the Du Sang Brotherhood, she becomes the prime witness. Now they’re forced to put their differences aside and go undercover by pretending to be a couple. The more time they spend together, the more Garrett wants her in his life—and in his bed.

Will they be able to develop the love and trust needed to take down the Brotherhood or become its next victim?

Excerpt:
Suddenly, all the hairs on the back of Gillian’s neck stood on end. Her whole body tensed. The chatter and music became muffled. Her eyes flickered across the lobby in search of who, or what, had caught her attention.
Then she saw him.
Six-feet-three inches of tall, dark, and brooding stood at the front desk. Detective Garrett Mulroney? What the hell was he doing here? Seeing him again after all these months sent a jolt of shock rippling through her.
His gaze locked with hers, and for a moment, she forgot to breathe. They both stood there, staring at each other. It was as though he could see beneath her armor, the kind she wore under the little black dress.
The word handsome didn’t even begin to describe him. Mythological titans like Adonis and Poseidon came to mind, males so stunning, they couldn’t possibly be real. But then she thought of other words too, like arrogant, brash…controlling…she could go on.
Mulroney crossed the lobby with a confidant gait, his long legs eating up the distance between them in a few easy strides. Her heart hammered in her chest with every step.
Every female head turned to catch a glimpse of the vampire. The closer he got, the more her body became hyperaware of his presence. He kept his thick head of dark hair short on the sides and longer in the front. The cut showed off the angles and hard lines of his face. Sexy stubble darkened a square jaw, and he looked every bit as dangerous as she remembered. Long, and lean, Gillian could make out the ripple of sinewy muscle beneath the jacket of his grey suit. In the past, she’d always been attracted to the artistic types. So, there was no good reason why she was drawn to this rough-hewn alpha.
But Goddess help her, he was magnificent.
Laughter drifted from the bar, and that’s when she realized she was still standing on a chair, gawking at him like some lovesick schoolgirl. She went to step down and her foot slipped out from one of her strappy sandals. Before she could fall sideways onto the marble, two strong arms wrapped around her waist and caught her in midair.
When she looked up and into Mulroney’s ice-blue eyes, her heart gave a little flutter. Apparently, the legends about vampires having preternatural speed and strength were real. But then, as his gaze filled with a kind of raw, primal desire, she had no doubt the steamy ones about them possessing a certain sexual allure also rang true.
“You’re lucky you didn’t break your neck,” Mulroney whispered close to her ear and set her on her feet. “What are you doing here tonight, Miss Howe?” The deep rumble of his voice did funny things to her insides.
“I could ask you the same question.” Gillian grabbed the scissors and scotch tape off the table, then shoved them in her black beaded bag. “If you must know, I’m working,” Gillian snapped. Ever since the prickly detective had been assigned to investigate the robbery of one of her clients, a local antique dealer, their paths had collided on more than one occasion.
Mulroney’s eyes did a slow sweep of her from the tips of her three-inch heels to the top of her head. Goosebumps instantly spread across her flesh. Gillian wanted to squirm from the flagrant perusal, but remained still, refusing to give him the satisfaction. Why would she? After all, he had tried to ruin her life. “Interesting work attire,” he murmured.
Her hands clenched at her sides, fighting the urge to tug on her dress again. “I’m sure you didn’t walk over here to comment on my choice of clothing. To what do I owe the unexpected pleasure?” she asked with a healthy dose of sarcasm.
“Trust me, this wasn’t planned,” he said in a gruff voice, refusing to look her in the eye.
Gillian couldn’t help remembering the day he and his partner had showed up at the coven. Peppering her with questions and unwarranted accusations, they’d invaded her safe space, conjuring that too familiar lash of shame, and reminding her of the days when the neighbors used to call the cops to keep her parents from an all-out war.
He kept his hands stuffed in his pockets, his stance casual, but he wasn’t fooling anyone. There was no mistaking the predatory way he kept checking out the people strolling by as only a cop would. She followed his gaze as it took in every detail, restless with intensity, before finally landing on their banner. “Is this a private fundraiser?”
She nodded, not in the mood to elaborate. “Are you here in an official capacity? What’s the matter, no real criminals on the streets tonight?” Or maybe this was personal and he was meeting someone. He’d worked with Alex on several cases, and according to Willow, he was a confirmed bachelor, not that she had inquired or anything.
“A quick word, please, Miss Howe. We need to talk.” The object of her unhealthy obsession ignored her questions and reached for her elbow, pulling her off to the side. His touch seared through the thin material of her dress, leaving a hot flush along her skin. At five-foot-seven, she wasn’t exactly short, but even in her heels, he towered over her.
“Hold on. I’m kind of busy right now. What’s this about?” Gillian demanded, catching a whiff of his masculine scent, a blend of sandalwood and clean laundry. She fought the urge to sigh and glared at him instead.
“You shouldn’t be here.” Mulroney glanced over at the couple’s tables scattered with rose petals, floating candles, bowls of heart-shaped chocolates, and the Lawrence Charity placards. He turned back to face her and scowled. “I want you to leave. Now.”
“Excuse me?” His words knocked Gillian off-center and before she could process them, an attractive female vampire with dark hair pulled in a tight ponytail walked up to Mulroney and placed a hand on his arm.
“It’s time. We need to go.” A surge of irrational jealousy coursed through Gillian’s veins like battery acid.
For a split second he hesitated, his gaze still fixed on Gillian, and she sensed some kind of inner battle raging inside him. Then he gave her a curt nod and walked away. Her heart sank.
Brooke approached and crossed her arms over her chest. “What was that all about?”
Not sure what to make of their twisted interaction, or of Mulroney’s ominous words for that matter, Gillian sucked in a quivering breath and let it out. “No idea.”

CHAPTER ONE

TIFFANY

It was the smirk that did it. I hated smirkers.
I really fucking hated them.
My best friend’s brother was a smirker, and he seemed to think he could pull it off, but Luke couldn’t. In fact, Luke Lancaster couldn’t pull off a holiday sweater, never mind a smirk, but that was just my opinion. Far as I could tell, the prick had more female attention than even this guy.

And his smirk? It suited him.
At the Satan’s Sinners’ clubhouse in West Orange, New Jersey, I’d admit to feeling like a fish out of water. Some of the girls from the country club had pretty much dared me to come, and because I was a moron, I’d let them work their wiles on me.
I wasn’t even mad at them, more at myself. Peer pressure—who’d have thought I was still vulnerable to it after school?
See, this was why I liked Lily. Hell, no. Why I loved her. She was like the sister I should have had. She got me and I got her. But she was on a tight leash—her dad was as big of a prick as her brother—and that was why I’d decided to spend my Friday night in this dump, because she was stuck hosting some stupid meal for her dick dad.
Well, okay, dump was a strong word. The place was quite nice actually. Surprisingly so. And the view? Sweet Lord in heaven, yeah, the view was more than worth it, even if I didn’t know what I was sitting in—something disgustingly sticky—tucked on a sofa beside a biker who looked like he was preparing to get sucked off by a woman wearing very few items of clothing.
That would be awkward.
Entertaining, maybe, but mostly awkward.

I mean, I’d watch. I’d be nuts not to, wouldn’t I? I had to watch. This entire thing felt as much like a social experiment as part of the psychotherapy major I’d tossed down the drain. There were so many women with daddy issues here, and so many men with god complexes that, six months ago, it would have been my idea of a wet dream.
Now?
I wasn’t sure whether to be amused or disgusted. I’d already seen some chick popping pool balls out of her ass.
Yup, you read that right.
I hadn’t even known you could get two balls up there, but she’d proven me wrong. Proven a couple of bikers wrong too—they’d taken bets on how many the poor bitch could shove up the brown eye.
They’d evidently never learned anything about anatomy.
That she could get a couple up there was a miracle—if you loosened your definition of what a miracle was—but eight? Did they think her rectum was Mary Poppins’ carpet bag?
Still, that had been a humorous interlude, if a little disgusting, and I’d made a mental note to A, never play pool here.
B, use Lysol on my entire body when I got home.
C, destroy this entire outfit because there was way too much DNA on it.

Entertaining though it was, the reason my friends had come here was to get laid by biker dick.
More daddy issues.
Apparently being treated like a piece of ass was on their to-do list. Well, it wasn’t on mine.
I had no such issues. Dad might not be a saint, but he was cool. Cool enough to support me as I tried to figure out what the fuck I was doing with my life after I’d ‘messed’ things up at school, at any rate. And I didn’t need to get back at him by being gangbanged by a bunch of bikers who wouldn’t understand the word ‘respect’ if Aretha Franklin screamed it at them.
Of course, all those thought processes went down before I saw him.
He had his hand down some woman’s pants, and his smirk set fire to my body in a way that made my eyelashes aroused.
My fingernails tingled too.
Everything about him screamed sex and sin. But even worse than that? He screamed a promise fulfilled.
He would give you sex and sin, but you’d love every fucking minute of it.

To be continued in Sin, the 3rd book in the Satan Sinners MC Series by Serena Akeroyd.
