I meandered through
the crowd, saying hello to several people I knew, until I came to an abrupt
halt. Across the room, standing alone against a window, was the woman who
rarely left my mind. Eliza was absolutely stunning. The royal blue dress hugged
her every curve. The neckline was modest and it nearly reached her ankles, but
the color was perfect on her and only made her beautiful eyes pop with color. I
could count on one hand the number of times I’d ever seen her hair down.
Tonight, it spilled over her shoulders in soft waves.
As though sensing my
gaze, her eyes locked on mine and my heart stuttered inside my chest at the
wide smile she sent my way. My feet led me over to her.
“Good evening. You
look…wow.” My eyes continued to take her in.
A bright pink dashed
across Eliza’s cheeks. “Aren’t you the flatterer.” She nervously smoothed her
dress down her stomach. “Are you sure I look okay? Ava and I went panic
shopping today, because I didn’t have anything suitable in my closet. I didn’t
want to be underdressed, but I also didn’t want to go too extravagant.”
Catching her fingers
in my hand, I brushed my lips across her knuckles staring into her eyes.
“You’re absolutely perfect.”
